This is a used Alpine cast-iron fire safe.
It is designed to give you protection from the loss that a catastrophic fire can bring. This little gem is tiny and was made likely created around the turn of the century. It is all original from the hand lettered script and accents to the dimunative hand painted mural on the door, to the polished finials that adorn each hinge top and bottom.
Although the lettering on front of the safe reads "The Security Safe Company, Chicago, Ill's" they probably weren't the manufacturer of this safe. It has all of the earmarks of an Alpine brand safe. It was standard fare for safe manufacturers of that era to make safes to order for individual customers or for distributors like "The Security Safe Company." When the safe was made for an individual customer, they could choose to have their name or their family name, or their business name applied to the safe front to personalize it. Just try to have that done today...can you imagine? How times have changed.
